Owino might not be playing in  a Police shirt much longer after being invited for a chance to set up with the reigning Taiwan league champions.

Kenya Police midfielder David ‘Messi’ Owino has been invited for trials at Taiwan club Tainan City in the quest for greener pastures.

The former Harambee Stars midfielder, who can play in a variety of positions, has been on a good run of form at Kenya Police, having matured into a fine footballer after spells at Mathare United and KCB.

He was instrumental as Police brushed aside Kakamega Homeboyz 3-0 in their first game of 3034, but he might not be playing in  a Police shirt much longer after being invited for a chance to set up with the reigning Taiwan league champions.

“I do not know whether I will be called up to the national team because I have to leave after next week’s game (against Bidco United) for greener pastures,”  Messi told Pulse Sports.

“ I will be leaving for Taiwan next week (but one) on Monday. Let us hope things will come up well.

“I have been invited, so we never know. I am going to Tainan City, they are the team that won the league last season.”

Meanwhile, Messi has revealed that he would also like to get back into the Harambee Stars set up, having not been part of it since 2020.

The former Mathare midfielder broke into the first team as a left back, but has since cemented himself as an attacking midfielder, a position he originally played in which actually earned him comparisons to Argentine legend Lionel Messi.

“I think it is high time because I have settled into a new position and as you can see, I have found my rhythm and settled very well there.”
