The county boss is keen to see the stadium given a new face after construction work stalled in 2018
Kakamega county government has set aside Ksh570 million for the completion of Bukhungu Stadium which has been hosting the national school games this week.
The renovation works, which began in 2013, have made decent progress, but halted in 2018 after a contemporary VIP stand equipped with a modern office block and facilities, was constructed.

Fans turned up in large numbers to witness the semi-finals of the national inter-school games held at the arena.
Dagoretti qualified to the finals after overcoming their rivals and newcomers Agoro Sare 3-0 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time while St Antony Boys defeated hosts and fan favourites Friends School Shanderema in a match played in front of a fully packed Bukhungu Stadium.
Speaking after the day’s events, area governor Fernandes Baraza said the stadium has been allocated up to Ksh570 million to construct it to completion.

"I am super proud of the impressive performances by local teams in the ongoing KSSSA games. I have been following the thrilling action virtually due to other work-related engagements,” Baraza stated.
"Bukhungu International Stadium, which is hosting the majority of the games, has been allocated Ksh570 million this financial year. Construction work has reached the home stretch, with roofing set to be completed shortly.
"The stadium, one of our flagship projects, will play host to the planned Sugar Conference in September as well as the finals for the Governor's Cup later in December and up to January 1, 2024."
The foundation has already been laid for the construction of versatile terraces encircling the stadium, coupled with a roof for added comfort and weather protection.
The impending completion of this phase promises a venue that can hold up to 30,000 individuals. The development plan encompasses the installation of a high-quality tartan track, facilitating track and field competitions, and accommodating large-scale events beyond football.
