A Portuguese top-flight football club extends trials for two South African talents, raising questions about a key Kenyan defender's future.

Harambee Stars defender Johnstone Omurwa’s team, C.F. Estrela da Amadora, is in the spotlight once again, but this time for welcoming South African players Liam de Kock and Isa Mangera for extended trials.

The Portuguese top-flight club is keen on bolstering its squad, and the addition of these promising talents could mark a significant development in its strategy for the future.

De Kock, a 22-year-old central defender from Stellenbosch, and Mangera, an 18-year-old left-back with La Masia training, journeyed to Portugal earlier this month.

"Both players have made a significant impression on the technical team at Estrela Amadora, prompting the club to request extended assessment periods for further evaluation by the club's top brass," said Mikhail Robertson, the players' agent, as per IDiski Times.

The pair's performances stand in contrast to Omurwa's current situation.

Despite participating in 15 league games since Estrela's promotion to Portugal's top flight, Omurwa has not been featured in any matches since February.

This absence is notable, considering he was previously seen as a key player for the club, particularly as a starting right-sided center-back.

The club's decision to sign Diogo Fonseca on loan from Braga in January has only intensified the competition for Omurwa's position, casting further doubt on his immediate future at Estrela.

Mangera and de Kock, on the other hand, continue to ascend in their careers.

Mangera made his professional debut for the National First Division side this season, and de Kock, after his time on loan at the club, made his senior debut for Stellenbosch.

De Kock also led Stellies to the DStv Diski Challenge title and Premier League NXT Gen honor during his tenure with the reserve team showcasing his leadership and skill on the field.
