Harambee Starlets have shared what they are pinning their hopes on for a place at WAFCON 2026 as they host The Gambia in the first leg on Friday.

Harambee Starlets are counting on their training for a positive result against The Gambia in their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier.

Kenya face The Gambia at Nyayo Stadium on Friday and need to get a win at home to take to the second leg next week as the team that emerges victorious from the two-legged tie will seal their ticket at WAFCON 2026.

Beldine Odemba’s charges have been in camp for the last three weeks and the players believe what they have taken in puts them in good stead to get a positive first leg result.

Starlets Players Issue Rallying Call to Fans

“We have been in training for more than three weeks and we have faith in the session we have had with the coach and our hope is to win Friday’s game,” said defender Ruth Ingosi.

“Our morale is high, the players are pushing hard and we really need this win at home. The team is very ready for the match and the fans should come in large numbers and push us like they did with Harambee Stars. We will not let them down.”

Ingosi’s sentiments are shared by forward Violet Nanjala, who is unfazed by the threat posed by their opponents.

“We are ready for the match and I know we will win,” said Nanjala. “We remain with Wednesday and Thursday so we are finalising and we are ready for The Gambia. Let them come, we are waiting for them because it is an opportunity for many of us here to play WAFCON.”

“I know Friday’s game will not be easy but the training we have had will make it easy. Let the fans come in large numbers and push us,” Nanjala further said.

This is the first meeting between the two teams with Kenya looking for a second appearance at WAFCON since making their debut in 2016 while The Gambia are keen to qualify for the first time.
