After breaking scoring records in Morocco, Kenyan striker Violet Nanjala feels she is now ready to conquer Europe and play in the Women’s Champions League.
Harambee Starlets striker Violet Nanjala has had some of her best years in her career in Morocco where she plays for AMFF Laayoune.
Nanjala joined the club three years ago after starring for Vihiga Queens in the FKF Women’s Premier League, having previously also played for Trans Nzoia Falcons.
In Morocco, Nanjala’s stay has been nothing short of spectacular with over 20 goals scored in each of her three years in the country, having started by netting 23 in the first season before adding 20 the following campaign.

She has taken it a notch higher this season when she managed 28 to win the Golden Boot award and that huge return includes seven scored in one match, a league record, witnessed when Laayoune thrashed CSST 12-0.

“When I signed, they gave me a month just to settle in, get used to the country, the food, the people, etc,” Nanjala told Telecomasia regarding her arrival in Morocco.
“But surprisingly, I caught up quite fast because I found really nice team-mates who helped me settle down, they showed me around and made me feel comfortable. We really understood each other well and quite fast and that is why I performed really well. I didn’t struggle a bit.
“I see a lot of improvement in my game, my scoring, and all round. The Violet of 2021 is not the same Violet now. I have been growing year in and year out and I am a totally different player now.

After three hugely successful years in North Africa, the Kenyan international feels now is perhaps the right time to realise an ambition that she has had since she was young, which is to play in Europe and feature in the prestigious UEFA Women’s Champions League.
“I have enjoyed my time in Morocco and achieved so much. At the moment, I have yet to decide about my future. Maybe it is time for me to move on, I don’t know yet,” Nanjala said when asked about her future.
“But, my ambition is to play in Europe and measure myself up in the Women’s Champions League. The same way men dream of listening to the Champions League anthem is the same for me. It has been my ambition and I believe I am ready for it if an opportunity comes my way.”
