Shabana welcome Gor Mahia on Sunday at the Gusii Stadium in what is expected to be a cagey Nyanza Derby.

Former Shabana coach Caleb Aringa has shed light on why Gusii Stadium is not fit to host high-profile FKF Premier League clashes.

This comes at a time when their clash against Gor Mahia is making headlines for being hosted at Gusii Stadium, despite the fixture's high-security nature that can be likened to that of the Mashemeji Derby between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, which is usually hosted at higher-caliber venues like Nyayo and Kasarani.

Aringa, who formerly coached Shabana FC as interim coach, believes that hosting Gor Mahia vs. Shabana at the current Gusii Stadium does not do the fixture justice.

Why Gusii Is Not a Fit Venue According to Aringa

The former Tore Bobe coach, contrasting the state of Gusii Stadium with that of international stadiums across the globe, highlighted why the Glamour Boys’ historic home is not a good fit to host such high-caliber clashes in Kenyan football.

“There at Gusii, once you enter the stadium, it's already trouble. You have to give someone either Kshs 50 so that he can give you a quick-fix ticket,” said Aringa on a recent episode of The Exit Show on YouTube.

He pointed out that the nature of the stadium would make for a poor experience for fans.

“Imagine if there is rivalry. Let’s say a team like AFC comes there—the way they usually come in a wave with all those buses—where will they sit?” he said, trying to highlight that Gusii, which is at best a 10,000-capacity stadium, cannot host a team like AFC Leopards, who are on the same level as Gor Mahia in terms of fan following, alongside Shabana.

“When a team like AFC comes here, they are inconvenienced because they have to leave some of their fans behind due to the stadium’s limited capacity,” he added.

“If some issue arises and a fight breaks out and there’s a stampede, how will that play out?” he asked, highlighting the security concerns of hosting such fixtures at Gusii.

His sentiments come at a time when Shabana's high-profile clash against Gor Mahia has drawn criticism for being hosted at Gusii Stadium.

The Tore Bobe are set to welcome the FKF Premier League champions on Sunday in a highly anticipated Nyanza Derby.

The fixture is expected to be a tasty but cagey affair between two passionate fanbases, with bragging rights and title aspirations on the line.
