Erick Kapaito scored twice and provided an assist as Tusker overcame Bidco United in a midweek league clash in Murang'a

Erick Kapaito produced a man of the match performance as Tusker had enough to overcome Bidco United in an FKF Premier League match played at the SportPesa Arena in Murang'a on Wednesday afternoon.

Kapaito scored twice and provided an assist, which will leave him breathing a heavy sigh of relief after going without a goal in any of his appearances since arriving in Ruaraka in August.

The game had to be delayed for one-and-a-half hours due to the fact the officials were yet to arrive on time.

Tusker drew first blood in the 15th minute when Mike Oduor managed to turnover possession as Bidco were attempting to build from the back before laying it off to Kapaito to slam home for his first goal in Yellow and Black.

Kapaito nearly made it two in the 19th minute when he picked up the ball on the edge of the box before setting up Shapan Siwa, but his low effort rolled wide.

Goalkeeper Brian Bwire then nearly grabbed himself an assist when he picked up the ball comfortably from a cross before swinging a one-time drop-ball on to the path of Stewart Omondi who volleyed it wide.

In the 25th minute, Malvin Nderitu nearly restored parity for Bidco when he danced his way to the edge of the box before seeing his resultant effort wide.

Shapan Siwa then made it two for the visitors. Oduor floated a cross from the right before Kapaito chested it down for the defensive-cum attacking midfielder who volleyed it home.

Tusker then made it three from the penalty spot through Kapaito after Oduor’s cross was handled inside the box, leaving the referee with no option but to give the spot-kick in their favour.

Bidco did pull one back through Peter Nzuki just before the break for a 3-1 lead in favour of the Brewers.

After the break, the Thika-based outfit recorded a fast start off the break and had a close chance, with Nderitu’s shot coming off the bar.

In the 59th minute, substitutes Levin Joseph and Joseph Mwangi nearly combined to make it four but his nifty touch could not beat Bidco keeper John Otieno who instantly initiated a fast counter attack that found Simon Ndung’u one-on-one with Bwire, but he could not beat the Harambee Stars goalkeeper.

In the 71st minute, Kapaito had a close chance, controlling the ball at the edge of the box and shooting on the turn, but the effort flew just over.

Moments later, Bidco got a chance with a loose ball inside the box with Jacob Onyango taking a shot at goal but Bwire made a smart low save.

Tusker thought the game was done but complacency creeped in towards the end as Ezekiel Okare scored from a Ndung’u assist to nearly bring the on-form side back, but they hanged on to get all the three points.

Tusker have now climbed to 11th place on 19 points, one behind Bidco in 9th place on 20 points.
