The club have opted for the tried and tested as they look to earn promotion back to the NSL.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Division One side Administration Police Services (APS) Bomet FC have confirmed the appointment of Benedict Wanjala Simiyu as the new head coach.

Simiyu returns to Bomet for a second stint, as he previously held the same position between 2020 and 2021.

During his first spell at the club, the experienced tactician was named the 2020/2021 season National Super League (NSL) coach of the year.

Simiyu replaces Charles Odera, who quit the club last week for Premier League side Wazito FC.

After leaving APS Bomet, Simiyu went on to coach Mombasa Elite, a club that takes part in the second tier.

“APS Bomet FC management is delighted to announce the appointment of Benedict Wanjala Simiyu as the new head coach.

Wanjala, the 2020/2021 season NSL award winner, has a wealth of experience with APS Bomet FC. He takes over from coach Charles Odera.

The club's management and the entire team take this opportunity to thank coach Odera for his time with the club and wish him well in his next chapter. The appointment of Wanjala takes effect immediately,” reads the club statement.

Simiyu had previously coached Mwatate United, a club he helped promote to the second tier.

APS Bomet were relegated to Division One in January 2023 after the South Rift side forfeited a game for a third consecutive time.

The club believed they won the right to be promoted to the FKF Premier League last season after a solid campaign in the second tier where they finished first.

However, they got a shock late last year after the reinstated FKF-National Executive Committee (NEC) declared all leagues under the Caretaker Committee during their suspension from office were null and void.
