Alpha Onyango has explained why the 27,000 fans that will attend Harambee Stars' CHAN 2024 quarter final against Madagascar at Kasarani Stadium will be key.

Harambee Stars midfielder Alpha Onyango has urged Kenyan fans to stand firmly behind the team as they prepare for their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarter-final against Madagascar this Friday, August 22, at Kasarani Stadium.

The young midfielder has been one of Kenya’s brightest performers at the tournament. Since making his official debut last June against Chad, Onyango has grown into a reliable figure in the squad.

His standout moment came in the opening Group A match against DR Congo, where he was named Man of the Match, setting the tone for a campaign that saw Kenya top their group against all odds.

The match will once again be played under CAF’s attendance restrictions, with Kasarani capped at 60 percent capacity (about 27,000 fans).

The measure was introduced after crowd management issues during Kenya’s earlier fixtures. Although the government appealed for the limit to be lifted, the request was turned down.

That means Harambee Stars will rely on a smaller, but passionate home crowd—something Onyango believes can still tilt the game in Kenya’s favor.

Speaking ahead of the clash to Tata Sports, Onyango shared just how much the fans’ presence has meant to the players:

“Representing Kenya on this stage has been such an honor. The energy from the supporters has carried us through the group stage, and we need that same spirit on Friday. Even with the reduced numbers, we know the fans can make Kasarani feel full.”

He added that the team’s bond off the pitch has been just as important:

“From day one, the unity in camp has been special. We’re playing for each other, for our families, and for the country. Our target is clear—we want to win this tournament.”

Onyango closed with a message of determination and belief:

“This is a massive quarter-final. We need our people behind us, and if they give us that push again, I’m confident we’ll deliver for them.”

With the momentum of a hard-fought 1–0 win over Zambia still fresh, Kenya will look to their growing star in midfield and the unwavering roar of Kasarani’s faithful to drive them into the semi-finals.
