Salwa Eid Naser equals meeting record in Doha 400m, marking a powerful comeback and setting sights on Paris 2024.

Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser delivered a sensational performance at the Doha Diamond League on Friday night, clocking 49.83 seconds in the women’s 400m

The 2019 world champion surged ahead in the final stretch at the Khalifa International Stadium, separating herself clearly from the field in a commanding display of pace and power.

“I feel good, it is such a special feeling to achieve a new meeting record!” Naser said after the race.

“It was not a coincidence, it was my aim for today’s meeting to make a new MR. After the silver medal at the Olympic Games, I went on a long break and then I came back, because it is important to rest.”

A Triumphant Return

Naser’s performance was more than just a win — it was a declaration.

After an extended break from elite competition, she looked sharp and composed, staying true to her race plan and hitting her stride at exactly the right moment.

Poland’s Natalia Bukowiecka followed in second with a season-best 50.92, and the Netherlands’ Lieke Klaver took third in 51.12, both strong performances but no match for Naser’s blistering pace.

Barbados’ Sada Williams faded to fourth in 51.32, while Shafiqa Maloney of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines placed fifth in 51.54.

Austria’s Susanne Gogl-Walli (51.91 SB), Britain’s Laviai Nielsen (52.02), and Qatar’s Bakhita Jamal Saber Marisio (55.37 NU20R) completed the standings.

Doha: A Special Stage for Naser

The stadium in Doha has long been a special venue for Naser — it’s where she claimed her world title in 2019, and once again, she shone brightly under its lights.

“It is windy here, but I won the World Championships here in Doha, so it is always special to be here,” she said.

Looking ahead to the rest of the season and the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Naser is focused on staying grounded and enjoying her journey back to the top.

“My goal this year is to win as everybody does, but I also want to be healthy. I will try to run a better time, but I don't want to pressure myself with it. I just want to be out there and enjoy.”

Salwa Eid Naser is once again proving she’s a major force in women’s athletics and she is far from done.
