Mary Moraa has shared a video of herself as she won her first-ever senior global title during the 2022 Commonwealth Games, revealing that her coach never gave her any game plan

Reigning World 800m champion Mary Moraa has shared a video clip of her winning her first-ever major title, the 800m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

At the event, Moraa clocked 1:57.07 to win the race and bring the whole stadium to a standstill. She finished ahead of home talent Keely Hodgkinson who clocked 1:57.40.

In the post on her Facebook page, she explained that her coach, Alex Sang, had just advised her to go and enjoy the race. She was just from bagging a bronze medal at the World Championships in Oregon, USA.

“I can watch this clip a thousand times daily. Quite nostalgic. When my coach told me to go out and enjoy myself, no pressure," said Moraa.

"He never gave me any game plan. Strange tactics but delivered my first major championship victory at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.”

Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Games champion has enjoyed a stellar 2023 season, being beaten only once in the 800m.

She won the gold medal at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary and bagged a series of Diamond League titles over the two-lap race. She won the Meetings in Rabat, Lausanne, and Chorzów and also bagged the Kip Keino Classic title.

She ended her season with a fourth-place finish at the Prefontaine Classic, the final Diamond League Meeting of the season.
