Benni McCarthy makes South African-based defender his first Harambee Stars call-up
New Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has handed a lifeline to the South African-based defender after including him in his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Veronica Campbell-Brown admitted that having a team that cared about her well-being greatly contributed to her success.
“I think part of it has to do with the care I received and I was never overworked, I was never overraced and I was able to take that same type of schedule into my professional career,” Veronica Campbell-Brown said.
“My agent never over-scheduled me and I could pick and choose when and where I wanted to race and my coaches worked together to make sure that I was well taken care of.
“Those were some of the things that really helped me have a smooth transition as well. I had a good team that was really there to help me perform at a high level.”
She went on to win world and Olympic titles, dominating the global stage before hanging her spikes in 2021. Veronica Campbell-Brown retired as the only track and field athlete in history to win medals at five successive Olympics.
