Danielle Williams sharpens her technique after Diamond League win in Xiamen, aiming for even faster times in upcoming races.

Reigning 100m hurdles world champion Danielle Williams might have started her season with a commanding victory at the opening Wanda Diamond League meet in Xiamen, China, but she insists the best is yet to come.

Williams stormed to a season-best 12.53 seconds on Saturday in a performance that showed her preparations for a long and competitive year are well on track.

The Jamaican star, who also claimed the short sprint title at Grand Slam Track in Kingston earlier this month, said there are still critical adjustments she plans to make ahead of her next races.

“The focus was on the last half of the race, trying to finish strong, I think I did that so I am satisfied,” Williams said as per Jamaican Gleaner.

“It is early in April and the season is over in September, so we are not even halfway into the training cycle. It is definitely a good sign. I have tweaked a lot. The game has changed. I mean, everyone is running really fast, so I have to make some tweaks to get up there. Tweaked the start and tweaked the finish.”

She is expected to race again within the next few weeks, facing a stacked field of competitors, including world leader Grace Stark of the United States, who finished second in Xiamen with a time of 12.58 seconds.

Williams, however, remains focused on her personal progression rather than the times of her rivals. She views each meet as an opportunity to sharpen her form under competition conditions.

“It’s about getting better each race,” she said.

“The goal is to peak at the right time, and these races are part of the process. You test what you’ve worked on in training, and you make the necessary changes.”

The experienced hurdler is expected to contest a few more Diamond League meets before shifting her attention fully to championship preparations.

The global standard has been raised, with several athletes posting sub-12.6 second times already.

“I’m not looking too far ahead. It’s one race at a time, one phase at a time,” she said. “Once I execute well, the times will come.”

Williams’ victory in China was part of a strong showing by Jamaican athletes, as triple jumper Jordan Scott and sprinter Shericka Jackson also delivered top performances.

Scott secured a personal best 17.27m to win the men’s triple jump, while Jackson placed second in her first 200m race of the season.
