Beatrice Chebet claimed the first gold medal for Kenya at the 2025 World Athletics Championships after running a tactical 10,000m race.
The 25-year-old will be contesting the 5,000m race which many consider her as the favourite as she is unbeaten over the distance since winning gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics while she broke the world record just two months ago.
"I always say I have to be a champion, so I have to die hard and that is how I go to the finish line," Chebet told Telecomasia.

"That is the only thing that matters. You have to push to the end and do your best. This win means a lot to me because it is my first in the Worlds.

World 10,000m champion Beatrice Chebet has disclosed what fueled her to the 10,000m gold at the World Championships as she looks forward to adding the 5,000m title.
"I have an Olympic, a World Cross title but I didn’t have a World Championship title. This was motivating me as I went into the final 200m of that [10,000m] race.
"I have also just realised the last time Kenya won this race was in 2015 and to win it 10 years later, means even more for me," she further said, expressing delight at returning a title that Kenya had last won through legendary Vivian Cheruiyot at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, China.
Winning 5,000m gold will, however, not be a walk in the park as the race also has defending champion and Chebet's best friend Faith Kipyegon, who is also eyeing a double after retaining her 1,500m crown.

Faith Kipyegon claimed a fourth world 1,500m title when she clinched gold as fellow Kenyan Dorcas Ewoi claimed silver at the 2025 World Championships.
There is also the challenge of Ethiopians, led by Gudaf Tsegay, who will be out for revenge after Chebet floored her in the 10,000m.
