Three-time Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon has explained why she is not obsessed with breaking her best friend Beatrice Chebet’s 5000m world record next season.
Beatrice Chebet shattered Faith Kipyegon’s world record at the 2025 Prefontaine Classic, becoming the first woman to run under 14 minutes after she clocked 13:58.06.
The top two other finishers in the race, Gudaf Tsegay and Agnes Ngetich, were also within the previous world record bracket as they clocked 14:00.21 and 14:01.29.

Faith Kipyegon Not Losing Sleep Over 5000m World Record
The four-time world 1500m champion disclosed that over the years, she has learned not to give world records too much priority in her life.
In an interview with Athletics Illustrated, Faith Kipyegon pointed out that she wants to take a break and enjoy her off-season before coming back and checking what is possible for her.
“I’ve learned not to plan too far ahead with records. For now, I want to take time off and refresh. Then we will see what next season has in mind for me. Records are very special, but they don’t come easy,” Faith Kipyegon revealed.

The 1500m world record holder added that at the moment, she is not looking to go down to the 800m, as she has also openly hinted at a switch to the marathon in the near future.
“The 800m will always be close to my heart because it was part of my development. But right now, I’m focused on my main events, especially after such a long season. I need to rest, recover, and then sit down with my coaches to plan for what’s next,” she added.
Now, as she goes to the off-season, Faith Kipyegon intends to do easy runs and some exercises, without forgetting to spend more time with her family.
