Marathon great Eliud Kipchoge and his wife Grace have been having a great time in South Africa this week as continues to spread his message of running across the globe.

Marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge has been spreading his message of running to South Africa having spent the whole of this week in Cape Town.

Kipchoge, and his wife Grace, have been enjoying the best of what the ‘Mother City’ has to offer and they seem to have had a treat.

Kipchoge posted a photo of him and his wife visiting some historical sites in Cape Town, such as the Robben Island Museum, which brings attention to the history of the island and apartheid as it is where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years, for opposing white minority rule that had institutionalised racial segregation and discrimination in South Africa.

He also visited other tourist attraction sites in the city and took photos with fans and as it his norm, Kipchoge ensured he had a run in Cape Town, where Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy was born and bred.

He was joined by a number of locals who were thrilled to run alongside the greatest to ever do it before he had a talk later on Thursday.

“Thank you all for the great recommendations, Cape Town has been amazing so far,” Kipchoge posted on Instagram.

Kipchoge had on Monday announced his arrival in Cape Town when he posed besides a Nike billboard in the city as part of his promotional campaign with the kit maker who he is signed to.

“Hello, Cape Town! It’s wonderful to be here. What must I experience in your beautiful city?” he posed before he got a tour of the Mother City during his stay.

Kipchoge finished sixth at the London Marathon last month in what was an improved performance after a torrid 2024 season that saw him manage 10th place in Tokyo before dropping out of his Olympics race.

Next up for the marathon great is the Sydney Marathon in Australia in August in what will be his first-ever race Down Under.
