Following her withdrawal from the women’s 1500m at the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen, China last month, fans were eagerly waiting to know where double world record holder Faith Kipyegon will compete next.
Their minds have now been put to rest since Kipyegon, the double World champion, will be opening her season at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting in Oregon, USA on Saturday, May 25.

Faith Kipyegon unsure about running 5000m at Paris Olympics
Double world champion Faith Kipyegon is still undecided about doubling at the Olympic Games but her coach Patrick Sang has given a timeline on when they will make the final decision.
The mother of one will be competing in the women’s 5000m against a strong field and will be hoping to execute a good race and have a great start to her season.

The two-time Olympic champion heads to the dense 5000m field with a lot of experience after enjoying a great 2023 season where she set the 5000m world record at the Diamond League Meeting in Paris, France.
The world record time was, however, lowered by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay at last year's Prefontaine Classic and Kipyegon might just be out to reclaim it.
Last season also saw the 30-year-old shatter the 1500m world record, something she has always wanted to do and also break the one-mile track world record that was held by Dutch woman Sifan Hassan.
At the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, she won the women’s 1500m and 5000m to make history on the global stage. This year, she also intends to make history by winning three Olympic gold medals in the 1500m.
In a previous interview, however, Kipyegon was uncertain whether she would compete in the 5000m but her coach explained that it was too early in the season to make such conclusions and she might just be a surprise appearance at the event.
