Passing the 400m mark, Beatrice Chebet was in the lead, behind the pace setters. The Ethiopian duo of Gudaf Tsegay and Sembo Almayew were running in second and third place.

Beatrice Chebet was still leading as the athletes passed the 1000m mark, with the world 5000m record holder running closely behind her. Yenawa Nbret had now climbed to third place.

Nothing changed when the athletes passed the 2000m mark, with Beatrice Chebet and Gudaf Tsegay going head-to-head. Sembo Almayew had taken her initial third place, running closely behind the duo.

Passing the 2400m mark, Beatrice Chebet was still the sole Kenyan runner in the lead, with a flock of Ethiopian runners behind her.

The world 5000m bronze medallist maintained the lead in the 3000m, with Hirut Meshesha having taken second place, overtaking Gudaf Tsegay, who seemed to be fading. However, the Ethiopian quickly regained form and was running behind Beatrice Chebet again.

The pacers had been dropped at this point, and Chebet was controlling the race with the Ethiopians taking turns running behind the Kenyan.

At the 4000m mark, Meshesha appeared to have taken the lead with Chebet now running in second place. Birke Haylom now took the lead with about 400m to go, with Beatrice Chebet running behind her.

Chebet regained her form and returned to the lead with 200m to go. She put in the work, fighting off competition from Gudaf Tsegay and taking the lead in a world lead and meeting record time of 14:27.12 ahead of Gudaf Tsegay.

Birke Haylom rounded up the podium, clocking 14:28.80 to cross the finish line. Hirut Meshesha slightly missed out on the podium bracket, having clocked 14:29.29 to settle for fourth-place.
