He opened his season with an eighth-place finish at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, Morocco.

World and Olympic 800m champion Emmanuel Korir has not been performing well lately since the season began.

He opened his season with an eighth-place finish at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat, Morocco before finishing 10th at the Diamond League Meeting in Paris, France. His recent outing was at the Meeting in Oslo, Norway where she finished eighth and has not raced since then.

Athletics Kenya Nairobi Region chair Barnaba Korir has revealed that the 28-year-old’s poor form is due to a leg problem that has since not been sorted.

“Emmanuel Korir is injured…he has a problem with his foot. He was supposed to compete at the Kip Keino Classic but failed due to an injury. We hope that by the time the World Championships are here, he will be well,” she said.

Korir has also missed out on the ongoing World Championships National Trials. However, he has a wild card to the global event after winning the 800m at last year’s World Championships.

Without his presence, all hopes will rest on former World Under-20 champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Commonwealth Games 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal if they make the cut.

The men’s 800m final will be held on Saturday, July 8 at the Nyayo National Stadium.
