The Kip Keino Classic will now be held on April 20, unlike the previous years where it was usually held in May.

The 2024 edition of the Kip Keino Classic has been brought forward to Saturday, April 20 with the venue remaining to be Moi International Sports Center Kasarani.

Speaking to Nation Sport, Race Director Barnaba Korir explained that the change of dates is because of the facelift that is supposed to take place at the stadium ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The stadium has been earmarked for renovations ahead of co-hosting the continental event, AFCON, alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

Usually, the event is held in May but the changes were necessary also owing to the 2024 Diamond League Calendar that will start on April 20 in Xiamen.

“Despite the change, the Kip Keino Classic will still attract some of the best athletes in the world, with next year being an Olympic season,” Korir said as per Nation Sport.

Korir added that the Chepsaita Cross Country Championship scheduled for December 2 in Uasin Gishu has now been added to the World Athletics calendar and has been categorised as a bronze-level event. He confirmed the information by showcasing the letter from World Athletics.

“It now means the event will be featured annually on the World Athletics calendar,” Korir added.

Meanwhile, the Lotto Foundation Cross country that was scheduled for next month has been canceled.

Also, the AK track and field build up that was scheduled for December 1 and 2 in Kisumu has been moved to December 8 and 9 but the venue remains the same.
