'We want to win the title and will give it our all' - Saliba reveals Arsenal's ambition this season
Mikel Arteta has transformed the Gunners into regular title contenders in recent years, but they have yet to turn their improvements into silverware.
Arsenal have finished second in the last three seasons, coming close behind champions Manchester City in 2022/23 and 2023/24, before ending up 10 points adrift of last season's winners, Liverpool.
These near misses have made standout centre-back Saliba even more determined to help the club win its first Premier League title since the 'Invincibles' of 2003/04 and their first major trophy since the 2020 FA Cup.
Saliba on winning the EPL
"Of course, we've finished second three years in a row, and we know we're always missing something. Now it's a new season, we have to see what we didn't do well enough to win the league. We won the first game and, of course, we want to be champions and we will give our all.
"We have to try to be even better than the last three seasons to win this league. We know the new players who have come to help us, and I'm sure they will help us win some trophies. Of course, we are already better with them. We'll see," the Arsenal defender told the PA news agency, via Sportal.
Saliba was speaking at the PFA Awards in Manchester, just after helping Arsenal secure three points in their first away game against Ruben Amorim's United on Sunday. "We want to score in every context – from set-pieces, on the counter-attack, from everything.
"We have to give our all and we know we can win every time. Of course, we knew we weren't playing our best football, but in the end, we were aware that this was the first match at Old Trafford with some new signings on their side," the French international added.
He also commented on his inclusion in the Premier League Team of the Year for the third consecutive season – a "pleasure" he once again shared with Arsenal teammates Declan Rice and Gabriel Magalhães.
"I'm very happy to play every game with Gabriel. He was injured for the last few months, now he's back to his best. He was so good against Manchester United again.
"We're just missing trophies. We play well, we are good, but we are missing trophies, and we need to win trophies with Arsenal to be even better," Saliba concluded.
