[VIDEO] Updated progress of Kasarani Stadium ahead of January 20 CAF submittion deadline for CHAN 2024
Preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) are in full swing at Kasarani Stadium, as workers toil around the clock to ensure the facility is ready for the continental tournament.
Kenya, alongside co-hosts Uganda and Tanzania, is set to welcome the event slated to kick off on February 1, 2025. While Uganda and Tanzania already have CAF-approved stadiums, Kenya’s need for upgrades prompted significant renovations at Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums, as well as the construction of a new Talanta City complex.
A recent video shared by Rhymaholic on X (formerly Twitter) provides an inside look at the progress made so far at Kasarani. The clip reveals several advancements, signaling a race against time to meet CAF’s standards.
Key highlights from the video
Playing surface progress
The playing field is steadily taking shape, with a lush green grass cover nearly complete. Only a few patches remain, but contractors are optimistic the surface will be ready well before the tournament begins.
Canopy structures taking shape
The metal framework designed to hold the canopy has been erected throughout the stadium, with the VIP section already complete. Once finished, the canopy will provide shade and enhance the spectator experience.
Modern Floodlights InstalledNew floodlights, as required by CAF, are being mounted on the roofing structures. These lights will significantly improve visibility during evening matches and meet international broadcast standards.
Comfortable Seating UpgradeThe installation of biluminous gray seats with backrests is almost complete. Unlike previous iterations, these durable seats are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, ensuring comfort for fans throughout the tournament.
Upgraded Washroom FacilitiesPublic washrooms have undergone extensive renovations and are now ready for use. This marks a significant improvement in amenities for spectators.
I managed to shoot a video of the ongoing renovation and upgrade of Kasarani Stadium. It will be the best in East Africa after its completion. Tanzania rushed to construct poor quality stadiums but Kenya took her time to build the best stadiums in East Africa. pic.twitter.com/K1pyav72e9

Inside the Dressing Rooms
Although Rhymaholic’s video did not cover the dressing rooms, a separate video by Tatasports revealed their readiness. Two of the four dressing rooms are already complete, with the remaining two expected to be finalized by January 20, 2025. This ensures teams will have access to world-class facilities during the competition.
Meanwhile, Nyayo National Stadium has received approval from CAF following a recent inspection led by Director of Competitions Samson Adamu. Additional training grounds, including Kirigiti Stadium, Police Sacco Stadium, and Ulinzi Sports Complex, have also been greenlit for the tournament.
