Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min eclipses Ronaldo and Drogba with Premier League hat-trick
Tottenham’s new captain Son Heung-Min hit a super hat-trick for Spurs in their 5-2 rout of Burnley to eclipse the Premier League goal scoring record of two of the competition’s greats.
Son decimates Burnley with hat-trick
Son scored Tottenham’s opener early in the first half, before completing his hat-trick with a second half brace to roll back the years in his best performance for the club in a long time.
The Korean’s heroics saw him score his 104th, 105th, and 106th Premier League goals in his 272nd appearance for Tottenham since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in the 2015/16 season.
Son’s new goal tally also means the Tottenham captain moves to joint 30th in the Premier League’s all-time top scorers’ chart, moving past Chelsea Legend Didier Drogba and Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
Son moves ahead of Ronaldo and Drogba in Premier League scorer’s chart
Ronaldo scored 103 goals across his two spells with Manchester United, while Ivorian star forward Drogba scored 104 times for Chelsea during his time in London.
With 106 goals, Son moves level with Premier League journeyman Darren Bent and is only a few goals away from moving ahead of some of the league’s most popular names including Paul Scholes, Peter Crouch, and Ryan Giggs, who are within another hat-trick of goals away from the Korea international.
Son has slowly found his feet since being named Tottenham captain in the new season following the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and the 31-year-old could be the one to lead the team’s efforts in the days post their iconic English striker.
