Top Belgian manager joins race for Vipers coaching hot seat
The Vipers SC head coach position fell vacant following the resignation of Alex Isabirye after only four months at the Kitende helm.
According to an informant, Vipers are interested in the services of Luc Eymael. The Belgian, a former Polokwane City, Free State Stars, and Black Leopards coach in South Africa's top-flight football, is among the top candidates.
Eymael’s move to Vipers could reportedly revive his reputation following pressure from activists in South Africa who reportedly cost him the opportunity to coach major football clubs despite being cleared by a FIFA investigation.
In 2020, the coach was involved in an alleged racist incident sparking a mass outcry. Last month, he was the favourite for the AmaZulu role, but alleged pressure from activists cost him the role.
Eymael found himself losing out on taking the manager position at Chippa United in 2021 over similar concerns.
Vipers have reportedly also held talks with Frank Dumas, a former TP Mazembe coach; reports also indicate that Brazilian tacticians are also in the queue.
