After weeks of cryptic messages on Luciano Spalletti's future, Napoli President Aurelio de Laurentiis has confirmed that the coach will not be at the helm next season.
Spalletti led I Partenopei to their first league title in 33 years; however, he will not attempt a defence, as he asked to leave the club at the end of the season.
What De Laurentiis said
According to Fabrizio Romano, the brains behind Napoli's on-field brilliance that has led them to a historic Scudetto title, Spalletti, will exit the club as confirmed by president Laurentiis.
He revealed that Spalletti wanted to take a sabbatical, despite having a year left on his contract, and he could not refuse the coach's request.
“Yes, Spalletti told me he’d prefer to take a sabbatical year, could I say no? He gave me a lot and I thank him,” Laurentiis said.
“He came to me and said that he’s given his all, that a circle has been closed."
With Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's future still up in the air, and Manchester United reportedly keen on landing Kim Min-Jae, the core of the Napoli side could be dismantled this summer.
