Report: Greenwood to formally’ reunite with Man Utd after Getafe spell
Mason Greenwood’s career at Manchester United may not be over despite his move to Getafe on deadline day.
Greenwood’s career had been in limbo after Manchester United released a statement that the youngster would not play at the club again.
Man Utd loan Greenwood to Getafe
Man Utd’s statement, which was released a few weeks ago, came after the club concluded their investigations into Greenwood’s conduct for assaulting his girlfriend and the mother of his child.
The youngster has not played professional football since he was arrested and detained for physical assault and attempted rape on his girlfriend.
Although he was not charged after the victim withdrew her case, Man Utd revealed they were conducting their own investigation.
The club finally concluded their investigation a few weeks ago, stating Greenwood would have to restart his career away from Old Trafford.
The ex-England youth has now been offered a chance at redemption after joining LaLiga side Getafe on a season-long loan deal.
Getafe confirmed the deal on their social media accounts, while Man Utd also released a statement.
Man Utd’s statement read: Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe CF on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance.
The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United. The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.
Greenwood could get another chance at Man Utd
However, while the move would allow Greenwood to restart his career away from Manchester United, the 21-year-old could still play for the Red Devils.
According to transfer market expert, Fabrizio Romano, Greenwood will formally return to Manchester United after the end of his loan spell with Getafe next year.
The Red Devils will not decide on what to do with the youngster when he returns. Greenwood’s contract with Manchester United runs until the summer of 2025.
