Tokyo 2020 Olympic 3000m women's steeplechase champion Peruth Chemutai has finally qualified for Hungary's 2023 World Athletics Championships.

Chemutai, the first Ugandan female Olympic gold medalist, hit the mark at the Lausanne Diamond League meeting on Saturday, where she finished third, posting a time of 9:11.91

Kenya's Beatrice Chepkoech won the race with a season-best of 9:05.98, while Ethiopia's Sembo Almayew placed second in 9:06.82.

World Athletics placed the qualification standard for 2023 at 9.23.00.

Less experienced Loice Chekwemoi will join Chemutai Uganda's glory hunt in the women's steeplechase; the latter has struggled with injuries winning gold in Tokyo.

However, She has bounced back from recurrent injuries in 2022 to win gold in Belgium and France world outdoor tours and gold in the FBK Games, Netherlands.

Chemutai picked up the injury at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, hitting her knee on a hurdle before settling for third.
