Real Madrid vs Union Berlin: Jude Bellingham the hero again as Los Blancos start their UCL campaign with victory
Jude Bellingham saves Real Madrid again as the England international scores late to hand Los Blancos maximum points in their Champions League opener against Union Berlin.
Carlo Ancelotti's side began their quest towards a fifteenth UCL title against the German team at the remodelled Santiago Bernabeu, and thanks to their new English star, their campaign began with maximum points.
How it happened
Union Berlin went close to getting a shock opener against the most successful team in the competition when Kevin Behrens rose highest to head Sheraldo Becker's cross, but his effort was blocked.
The hosts soon started to dominate the game as expected and were close to scoring from a header of their own, with Joselu's attempt failing to end up in the back of the net.
Los Blancos continued to create chances, but their two-point men, Rodrygo Goes and Joselu, seemed to be missing their shooting boots.
The second-half has a similar feel, with Real Madrid struggling to break Union Berlin down, but when it looked like the game was doomed to be a draw, Bellingham rose to save Real Madrid, as he had done on multiple occasions this season.
