Reactions as suspended Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood welcomes first child with girlfriend Harriet Robson

Suspended Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has welcomed his first child with girlfriend Harriet Robson, who accused him of sexual assault in 2022.

Greenwood and Robson have patched up their relationship since the 21-year-old striker was arrested in January 2022 for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and have even gotten engaged while they awaited the birth of their first child together.

The one-time England international was under investigation for the alleged crimes until October 2022, when charges against him were dropped due to key witnesses withdrawing their testimony.

The Manchester United striker was pictured at a baby shower with Robson just last week and has now confirmed that the couple have welcomed the latest addition to their family.

Greenwood made the announcement in an Instagram post where he showed his baby’s hand clasped in his and his partner's hands.

The 21-year-old striker marked the occasion with his caption on the picture, which read: "11.07.23" to symbolise the date when his baby was born.

The forward remains suspended from Manchester United’s first team despite being pictured training privately along teammate Anthony Elanga.

The Red Devils are reportedly continuing internal investigations into the striker’s situation and will make a decision on his future when they reach a conclusion.

With Greenwood disabling comments on his Instagram, reactions from fans have come from other social media platforms, although former Manchester United teammate Eric Bailly and current Red Devils star Bruno Fernandes have liked the announcement post. 

Many fans supported Greenwood, hoping the new addition to his family would help him get back into Manchester United's good graces.

While others seemed to think the announcement was part of a devious ploy to make Greenwood's imminent return to the Manchester United team more acceptable, others maintained the stance that the striker was still not in the clear over the January 2022 charges. 

The 21-year-old forward inevitably drew comparisons with Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy who was recently acquitted of multiple sexual assault charges on the same day, while another fan asked Manchester United to allow him to support his new family even though the club continues to pay his £70,000-a-week salary while he remains suspended.
