Nigerian athlete Godson Brume gets people talking in the US and on ESPN

Godson Brume is currently one of the popular names in the US for his actions at the just concluded NCAA Championships.

Brume got people talking after crossing the finish line to win his 100m semifinal heat in a massive Personal Best of 9.93s and gave a stare-down to second-placed Shaun Maswanganyi.

This moment has caused lots of online controversies and reactions, as many believed it was unnecessary and disrespect to his fellow college athlete.

Others believe it's what track and field needs to make it more exciting by creating rivalries between athletes.

To buttress this, leading sports broadcasting company ESPN shared an Instagram post of the moment with over 43,000 likes and counting.

Brume and Maswanganyi then hugged it out after the race, showing it's a healthy competition.

The Nigerian will later win a silver medal in the final in an impressive new PB of 9.90s - the third-fastest time in Nigerian history. Masangwayi won bronze in 9.92s - the second-fastest time in South African history.

Definitely there will be more match-ups between the two, and the 'healthy rivalry' has just begun.
