Nigeria vs Lesotho: 5 Super Eagles stars to watch out for against the Crocodiles
Jose Peseiro and his Eagles are back in Uyo to kick start what is expected to be a long journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America.
As the Super Eagles get set to take on Lesotho’s Crocodiles this week in the opener of the FIFA WCQ, here are the five players to watch.
Super Eagles Players to Watch
- Victor Boniface (Bayer Leverkusen)
Victor Boniface is a striker who quickly became a fan favourite for club and country.
For his club Bayer Leverkusen, the 22-year-old has been in fine form en route to becoming Die Werkself’s contributor-in-chief with 12 goals and assists in 11 matches in the Bundesliga.
With his namesake, Victor Osimhen ruled out with an injury, the three-time Rookie of the Month winner will shoulder the burden of getting the goals to make sure Nigerians are happy.
- Alex Iwobi (Fulham)
Mr versatility who can operate on the wings or in central midfield, where he has featured for the Super Eagles will be a key player for Nigeria.
Iwobi has partnered Wilfred Ndidi in the middle third but is set for a new partner with the Leicester City man absent due to an injury.
The Fulham man must be at his best to help Nigeria control things and dominate in that centre.
- Francis Uzoho (Omonia Nicosia)
While not the most popular Super Eagles player on this list or amongst Nigeria, the goalkeeper will have all eyes on him.
After some costly mistakes in recent matches which have knocked down confidence in the Super Eagles goalkeeping department, the Manchester United fan has a chance to make amends.
- Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City)
The senior man needs no introduction as he is a renowned scorer for club and country. Last international break, the Leicester City star proved this when his stunning goal helped Nigeria avoid a shock against Saudi Arabia.
Iheanacho's quick feet and eye for goal could come in handy against the Crocodiles as he looks to build on his last outings for Nigeria. He assisted a goal in that brilliant win against Sao Tome.
And with a new winger in the talented Nathan Tella to contend with, the 27-year-old will be more determined to show his quality on the pitch.
- Moses Simon (Nantes)
One of the most consistent performers for the Nigeria Super Eagles. Simon remains a potent threat for Nigeria on the left, capable of scoring or assisting.
With nine goals to his name for Nigeria, Lesotho presents a good chance for the Nantes star to add to that tally, especially after sitting out the emphatic win against Sao Tome and Principe the last time Nigeria played in Uyo.
These five players have the ability to make a great impact for Nigeria when the Eagles face Lesotho this Thursday.
Nigerians will be following closely to see if they can get their dear Super Eagles off to the best possible start in the FIFA WCQ.
