Mourinho masterclass as Roma sweep past Udinese
AS Roma scored in both halves and weathered a second-half storm to beat Udinese 3-0 in a match where two penalties were missed.
I Gillarossi hosted Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico as they looked to shake off the midweek defeat in Europe to Feyenoord and make it three consecutive victories in Serie A. The hosts proved too strong for their guests, beating them soundly.
How it happened
Mourinho's troops were sluggish to get going against Le Zebrette, who had more of the ball in the early going.
The hosts soon assumed a dominant position and started to ask questions of their visitors. The pressure by the capital club was rewarded in the 34th minute when Roberto Pereyra handled the ball in the box.
Midfielder Bryan Cristante took responsibility for the resulting spot kick but lost the battle of nerves against Marco Silvestri, missing the chance to give Roma the lead. They will not be denied any further, though, as Edoardo Bove was alert to score from the rebound.

They will not be denied any further, though, as Edoardo Bove fired the hosts ahead moments after Cristante's miss.
They came close to doubling their lead at the end of the half, but it was not to be.
Lorenzo Pellegrini doubled the UEFA Conference League holder's advantage in the 55th minute, finishing off a swift counter by the hosts, as he finished off Andrea Bellotti's pass expertly.

Roma assumed a familiar defensive shape after they went two up, absorbing pressure from their visitors.
They were nearly made to pay for this approach when Mancini handled the ball in the box, however, Pereyra fumbled the chance to right his earlier wrongs, playing into the hands of Rui Patricio, who correctly guessed the direction of his attempt.
The visitors continued to apply pressure, unsuccessfully breaching the Roma backline before a late Tammy Abraham tie sealed the win for Jose Mourinho's boys.
