Manchester City vs Newcastle United betting tips and odds

Manchester City are now five points behind league leaders Arsenal after the Gunners won their game in hand against Everton. Pep Guardiola’s side know they cannot afford any further slip-ups if they are to retain their Premier League title. 

Fresh off their Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester United, Newcastle United will hope to get a positive result to help them get back into the top four. The Magpies are currently fifth, four points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, having played two fewer games.

John Stones and Aymeric Laporte are major doubts for Manchester City, as they are both out with a hamstring injury and illness, respectively.

Nick Pope will return for Newcastle after missing the Carabao Cup final due to suspension, while Emil Krafth is sidelined with an ACL injury.

Manchester City will hope to pile on Newcastle’s misery this weekend. City have been dominant in this fixture, having won six of their last seven league games against the Magpies while also winning their last 13 home games against them. City have the best home record in the league this season, picking up 31 of a possible 36 points at home so far.

This game has always produced goals, with five of the last six meetings between these teams finishing with over 3.5 goals. We expect the trend for goals to continue in this fixture, and an offer of over 2.5 at 1.71 is too good to pass up. 

City have struggled to keep clean sheets in recent games, with six of their last eight league games producing both team to score outcome. Newcastle put three past them in the first leg, with the game ending 3-3, and we do not see this affair ending with either side keeping a clean sheet.
