Liverpool pull out of Kone deal

Kone who currently plays for Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga had been touted as one of the possible names to join the Reds following the signing of Alexis MacAllister from Brighton, but reports out of France suggest that a move is off the table.

Kone was in superb form for Gladbach in the Bundesliga this season, and his performances made him a prime target for major clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool, however, a move to the Reds is unlikely to materialise.

Kone still set for summer transfer from Gladbach

Liverpool are believed to be pursuing the signature of OGC Nice’s Khephren Thuram, who has a similar style to Kone, and will prioritise his signing this summer.

Despite Liverpool’s reluctance to make an approach this summer, Kone is still very highly rated at the club, which could be tempted to make a move for him next summer when his transfer valuation would have dropped.

Kone has only two years on his current contract with Gladbach, and the club could be tempted to sell the midfielder this summer while his reputation is still this high and his transfer fee could earn them a significant windfall.

Kone has not made a preference known for his destination after leaving Gladbach, but with the amount of interest in him currently, he will certainly have his pick of some top clubs.
