Lens interested in Nigerian sensation Gift Orban as search for Openda's replacement continues
Ligue 1 runner-up Lens are reportedly interested in a move for Nigerian sensation Gift Orban if striker Lois Openda leaves the club this summer.
Lens search for Openda replacement
Openda had an incredible season with Lens after scoring 21 goals for Les Sang et Ors in the 2022/23 season and has been touted for a move away from France in the summer transfer window.
The Belgian forward has been linked with moves to Inter and AC Milan but is also rumoured to be close to a deal to join German side RB Leipzig ahead of the 2023/24 season after only one campaign with Lens.
Orban among Lens’ candidates to replace Openda
Lens have been testing the waters for a replacement if Openda leaves and have reportedly sounded out another Nigerian striker, Chuba Akpom, as well as Leipzig’s Alexander Sorloth and AZ Alkmaar’s Greek forward Vangelis Pavlidis.
According to a report from Foot Mercato, Lens are also interested in a deal for Gent’s Orban who has impressed since his January move from Stabæk to the Belgian side.
The 20-year-old striker has scored 20 goals in 22 appearances in only half a season with Gent, including five goals in six UEFA Europa Conference League matches that grew his stock among top European clubs.
