Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso spoke to the media ahead of tomorrow's La Liga away game against newly promoted Oviedo, for whom this is their first home match in the top flight in 24 years.

"This is certainly a special match for Oviedo, and now we are their first home opponent, which is also very important. We are looking for good feelings and to continue growing, to be competitive, and to show a high level, no matter where we play... this is the path we must follow."

When asked again about Rodrygo, who didn't play a single minute in the first match against Osasuna, and about squad selection, Xabi replied: "We have only played one match, and all decisions about who plays are mine.

"I evaluate them with my staff. We believe this is what's best for the team. I have spoken with him, as I have with everyone else. I am happy with the squad we have, but we must always be prepared if any changes are needed."

"Mastantuono? He came on well and has a big impact; he has a chance to play, just like everyone else in the squad. The absence of Bellingham? We have to adapt. If I think we won't have any injured players all year... that's impossible. You can't just think about a fixed starting eleven because no one will play every single minute."

"I'm not at all concerned about the gap to Barcelona. I'm concerned with my own level, with how we are performing. Every week we can get better and grow as a team. Vinicius's form? He's doing well.

"We've only played one match so far. I will also try to help Mbappé, to make sure the team helps him, and he helps the team to win. Kylian is a fundamental part of the team," concluded the Real Madrid manager, via Sportal.
