"I'm absolutely convinced this will happen" - Brighton boss addresses Baleba's move to Man United
Manchester United is plotting another spectacular move this summer and have not finished in the transfer market.
Having already secured Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbuemo, and Matheus Cunha, the Old Trafford club is now focused on bolstering their midfield, with Brighton's Carlos Baleba their primary target.
Hurzeler addresses Baleba's transfer
According to Fabrizio Romano, via GSP, while the Seagulls' midfielder is keen on a move to Ruben Amorim's side, an agreement between the two clubs is far from being reached.
The Italian journalist stated that Brighton officials want the Cameroonian to remain with Hurzeler's squad this season, with any potential departure being discussed next summer.
Manchester United continues to press, reportedly prepared to offer a substantial sum (over €80 million plus add-ons), having already spent over €225 million in the current transfer window.
In the pre-match press conference ahead of Brighton's Premier League opener against Fulham, Hurzeler was asked about Baleba's future and provided a definitive and encouraging answer for the club's supporters.
"I know there have been discussions, but right now, our club isn't interested in selling him. I'm absolutely convinced Baleba will continue with us this season. Nothing has changed. Only his hairstyle (laughs). He, like us, is eager to get started and achieve good results together. That's all that matters." - Fabian Hurzeler on a potential Carlos Baleba transfer to Manchester United
United does have a backup plan if they can't reach an agreement with Brighton for the Cameroonian midfielder.
According to The Sun, Old Trafford officials are prepared to offer up to £50 million for 26-year-old Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand, who previously played under Ruben Amorim at Sporting Lisbon.
