Still, Marco Silva was far from satisfied with the point, heavily criticising the officiating team led by Chris Kavanagh.

Silva's complaints centred on the penalty awarded to and subsequently missed by Bruno Fernandes, as well as VAR's decision to validate the opposing team's goal.

“I would like to explain everything about this afternoon’s VAR decisions, but I can't. I can't, because they were different in many aspects.

"It was incredible to see two fouls at the same time, Shaw on Muniz and Bassey on Mount, both fouls, and they saw that Bassey’s foul was half a second before Shaw’s on Muniz,” he began, speaking to Sky Sports, via Abola.

“Then, the second one [United's goal]. I think what I saw was what everyone in the stadium saw, everyone in the world saw. Two players were isolated in a corner and one player [Yoro] pushed the other [Bassey] to head the ball.

"If we follow the rules, we know what will happen. I wish these kinds of decisions were always the same. Simple as that,” he fired, only pleased with his players' reaction.

“Pleased with the point? I'm pleased with the reaction, pleased with how we recovered in the second half after a goal that should have been disallowed, with how we finished the game, pleased with how the players came on and how we performed against a top team like Man United again,” he explained, before analysing the match itself.

“Manchester United started better than us. In the first 20 minutes, they were better, we lost most of the 50/50 duels, and when you lose those duels, you're late to the play. They were able to start causing problems. It took us a long time to adjust in terms of our reaction and making the right decisions on the ball, and we let them press the way they wanted.

"After that, we began to stabilise our game a bit and started finding our three midfielders and creating an overload in that area, and from there, the game became more balanced,” he said, moving on to the second half.

“In the second half, we were better, even when they scored, it was during our best moment of the game. The reaction, composure, and mentality from the lads were excellent. The players who came on in the second half made a huge impact. After the 1-1, we were more on the front foot and they only got into our box from set pieces.

"Nothing else. We created well, got into dangerous areas, and we needed to be more clinical and ruthless,” he added, stressing the importance of securing signings before the transfer window closes.

“Of course I'm praising our lads, but we are short of players in many positions. I said before the game that the plan we had didn't work out. We have so many things to do. The players need internal competition,” he concluded.
