Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire has expressed his elation over the turnaround of his fortunes at Manchester United after months of being viewed as the joke of the club.
The 30-year-old received an ovation from the Old Trafford crowd after scoring the winning goal against Copenhagen in the Champions League, and the former Leicester man could not mask his delight.
What Maguire said
The England international started by analysing their performance as a team. He acknowledged that they started poorly but believes they turned it around in the second 45.
"Incredible. We have got to be more clinical; we had numerous counter-attacks and we didn't give them a chance in the second-half,” he said, per the BBC.
"The first-half was really poor; it was not perfect but an important win. This man [Andre Onana] stepped up and it was a massive save."
When he was quizzed about the reception he received from the Old Trafford crowd, he admitted that he felt proud given the difficulty he faced for several months.
"It is amazing. When you are not on your game, it gets picked up, but I am really proud and pleased how I have acted over this six to 12 months.”
"I have been given an opportunity and I want to help the team and get the club back to where it should be."
The 27-year-old Cameroon international has been subjected to immense criticism since signing for the Red Devils this summer, as he has been in the frame for a number of goals shipped by Ten Hag’s side this campaign.
