Heartbreak as another Nigeria-eligible star set to dump Nigeria for European giants
Spain have dealt a major blow to Nigeria's hopes of securing a promising young talent, with Atletico Madrid striker Samuel Omorodion included in their squad for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The Spanish-born forward, who has Nigerian roots, has been tipped for a bright future and was eligible to represent the Super Eagles at international level.

In a surprise move, the 20-year-old, however, has been named in the Spanish squad for the upcoming Olympic Games, sparking fears that he may have turned his back on Nigeria.
Omorodion, who is currently on loan at Deportivo Alaves, has enjoyed a breakout season in La Liga, scoring nine goals and providing one assist in 35 appearances.

His impressive performances have caught the eye of the Spanish national team, with coach Santi Deni handing the Atletico star a coveted spot in his Olympic squad.
The move will come as a major disappointment to Nigeria, who have seen a number of their promising youngsters opt to represent other nations in recent years.
Just earlier this month, Crystal Palace midfielder Michael Olise also opted to play for France instead of the Super Eagles, dealing a significant blow to African giants.
And now, Omorodion's selection for Spain's Olympic team suggests the West Africans have lost another potential star to their European rivals.
The news will no doubt ramp up the pressure on the Nigerian Football Federation to do more to retain their top young talents, with the country's hopes of future success heavily reliant on their ability to keep hold of their brightest prospects.
As for Omorodion, the Atletico forward will now have the chance to showcase his skills on the biggest stage, as he looks to help Spain secure a gold medal in Paris.
It remains to be seen whether the youngster's decision to represent the Iberian nation will pay off, but one thing is certain - Nigeria will be left to lament another missed opportunity to bolster their ranks with a player of immense potential.
