What Kane said

England's head coach, Southgate, has been heavily criticised throughout his stint in charge. The derision has gone up a gear at the ongoing Euros, with the Three Lions having failed to put together a single dominant performance after four games.

The country's captain and record scorer, Kane, believes the fault lies with the players, however, suggesting Southgate has done enough. He wants the players to turn up for the rest of the tournament to repay the efforts of the former Middlesbrough man.

"I know the boss at times will come under criticism and come under stick, but, ultimately, it’s us on the pitch to make the difference in vital moments," Kane told reporters, per Goal

"We feel like the coach has given us so much and been one of our most successful managers in England’s history. So we need to go out there and repay him with that. It’s an incredible achievement [to reach 100 games].

In terms of doing something for him, I think all he will want is a win so hopefully we can win and that will be the best present he could ask for."

Southgate has led England through their most successful spell in ages. He reached the finals of the last edition of the Euros, and in the 2018 World Cup, they reached the semi-finals.
