Gor Mahia may be enjoying a brilliant run in the FKF Premier League so far but a section of their fans are still not impressed.

K’Ogalo beat Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 to extend their lead at the top of the table to 10 points on Saturday, while maintaining their unbeaten run to 18 games, but they had to do it the hard way with Christopher Ochieng’s stunning strike arriving deep into injury time.

It was another game when Gor were frustrated for most of the encounter but still found a way to win. Some fans, however, appear not happy with the late winners, accusing coach Johnathan McKinstry of employing a conservative approach.

McKinstry has made his team hard to beat and they remain the side with the best defensive record in the division after conceding just seven goals in 18 matches, but that appears not satisfactory to some of the club’s supports, who point to their recent run of few goals scored, including the last three, which have all ended in 1-0 wins.

“Like in 18 games, our one and only high-scoring game was against City Stars [Gor Mahia won 4-1 in September]. When last did we score in the first 15, 20, 30 minutes? When last did we get a 2-0, 3-0, 4-1 scoreline?” posed a fan.

“You're playing boring football. And we need the team to score many goals. Tired with one nil wins,” said another one.

“That team is playing boring football. At this point we [are] just scrapping through.”

Some fans feel Gor Mahia need to turn on the style or else they will be embarrassed in continental assignments if they keep to their current displays.

“You playing Haram football aka #opiramokwedi and you will shame us next season in Champions League,” said another concerned supporter.

“Just look at the number of goals Gor have scored. There's no way we achieve any continental success with that kind of football.”

However, others feel McKinstry should be cut some slack since he lacks the quality to play expansive football within his squad.

“The team is short on quality. Gor lack flair and creative players. The coach must adapt and get the best out of the players at his disposal,” commented another fan in the coach’s defence.

Despite the murmurs of discontent, K’Ogalo remain the team to beat for this season’s title and besides their impressive defence, only Nairobi City Stars (25 goals) have scored more than their 23 goals.

Gor Mahia have shown remarkable mental strength this season, nicking late goals against Sharks (on two occasions), Bandari, Muhoroni Youth, Shabana, KCB and Sofapaka to either secure victories or draws, which leaves them on 40 points, but it appears their fans are not comfortable living on the edge.

K’Ogalo’s next match will be a major test against resurgent Tusker, a team they beat 1-0 in October.
