Good news for Red Star: Mourinho to send player back to Belgrade

Mourinho to send player back to Belgrade
Fenerbahçe's Ognjen Mimović is not in José Mourinho's plans. Red Star, the club that launched Mimović's international career, could capitalise on the Serbian international's uncertain future.

Mimović blossomed at Red Star during 2024. After a year of consistent performances, he secured a transfer to Fenerbahçe.

The Turkish giants paid Red Star €6.7 million, but even that hefty sum didn't guarantee the young right-back playing time in Istanbul.

After less than two weeks, Fenerbahçe loaned Mimović to Zenit. However, the Serbian defender struggled for game time in Russia, making only six appearances, totaling a mere 242 minutes on the pitch throughout the half-season.

Mourinho to sell Mimović

This summer, Ognjen returned to Istanbul, but Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho deemed the Serbian international prospect surplus to requirements and placed him on the transfer list.

Having paid €6.7 million just six months ago, Fenerbahçe is unlikely to recoup their investment. With Mimović's contract running until 2029, another loan move seems the most probable outcome, as reported by Sportal.

This situation presents an opportunity for Red Star, who have made no secret of their desire to bring their former player back to Belgrade.

Currently, Red Star manager Vladan Milojević has Jung-Vu Seo and youngster Strahinja Stojković as right-back options. Mimović's return would provide ideal competition for the position.
