Both Super Eagles players came off the bench as substitutes, but it was Nwakali who made the greater impact for the hosts.

Introduced in 57 minutes, the 25-year-old proved solid on the ball as he completed 91% of passes and won two tackles during an accomplished cameo.

For Onyemaechi, it was a first appearance since returning from AFCON duty with Nigeria, where he was restricted to the bench throughout the tournament.

Bruno Onyemaechi did not play a single minute for Nigeria at AFCON 2023.

The talented left-back managed just six minutes after coming on as a late substitute, completing 80% of passes before Chaves sealed the three points.

It was a day to forget for Onyemaechi against compatriot Nwakali, who earned bragging rights over his international colleague.

With both men looking to force their way into Super Eagles contention, Nwakali gave himself a boost by helping new side Chaves upset Boavista.
