Foden and Norway's Haaland close in on Aguero's Manchester derby record
Phil Foden and Erling Haaland enhanced their reputations as big game players by firing Manchester City to a 3-1 derby victory over rivals Manchester United on Sunday.
Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that Foden bagged a brace while Haaland struck his 17th Premier League goal of the season as City came from behind after Marcus Rashford's opener for United.
Foden and Haaland chase Aguero
The goals took both Foden and Haaland to six Premier League strikes against United, drawing them level as City's second-highest scorers in this fixture.
Only legendary striker Sergio Aguero, with eight goals against United, has scored more Premier League goals for City in Manchester derbies.
At just 22 and 23 years old respectively, Foden and Haaland already boast an impressive derby pedigree.
Foden turned the game around on Sunday, levelling with a fine finish before he stole into the United box to fire in a second, leaving Andre Onana stunned to make it 2-1.
Haaland then showed his predator instincts to seal the points, poking home to punish the Reds after a Sofyan Amrabat mistake.
The Norwegian phenomenon already has 27 goals in all competitions this season as he continues to set astonishing scoring records.
But Aguero's Manchester derby haul of eight Premier League strikes remains the City benchmark Haaland and Foden aim for.
On current form, few would bet against City's lethal attacking duo surpassing their legendary former teammate's tally sooner rather than later.
