The Spaniards went 1-0 up through Alvaro Morata in minute 29 and they added to their advantage with two more strikes before the interlude, with Fabian Ruiz and Dani Carvajal finding the back of the net for Luis de la Fuente’s team before half-time. 

Croatia’s equaliser with 10 minutes remaining was chalked off after encroachment denied Bruno Petkovic a consolation after the forward had his penalty saved by Unai Simon

It ended 3-0 to Spain, with Yamal creating history in Berlin. At 16 years and 338 days, the Barcelona teenager became the youngest player to feature at the European Championship.

With his assist for Carvajal's goal in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, the 16-year-old became the youngest player to assist a goal at any Euros finals.

Spain can book their place in the first knockout round when they face Italy on June 20 before facing Albania four days later.
