Cyriel Dessers reflects on return from Super Eagles wilderness after goal against Ghana
Cyriel Dessers marked his return to the Super Eagles with a crucial goal from 12 yards, helping Nigeria secure a 2-1 victory in a thrilling encounter against Ghana in Morocco.
The Rangers of Scotland forward expressed his delight at being back in the team after a significant absence, emphasising the importance of the win and his contribution to the game.
Dessers speaks on Super Eagles return
The 29-year-old has been away from the Nigeria national team since watching European giants Portugal thrash the Super Eagles 4-0 in a pre-World Cup friendly back in November 2022.
But he made a successful comeback more than a year later with a well-struck goal from 12 yards to score the first goal of the Finidi George era in the Eagles.
After the match, Dessers spoke to the media via the team’s official social media handle in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter.
It’s a good thing for me to come back to the team and to play a good game," Dessers said. "To win an important game and hopefully, this can be a step up for the future," he added.
With three caps and one goal already under his belt for Nigeria, Dessers looks forward to the upcoming challenge against Mali.
The talented forward is eager for more playing time as he aims to make a lasting impact on the team and contribute to their future successes.
But as Nigeria prepares to face Mali, will Dessers get another chance to showcase his skills and continue his impressive journey with the Super Eagles?
