A city divided along fierce football lines erupted in scenes of raw passion and chaos as 10-man SS Lazio defeated bitter rivals AS Roma in the Coppa Italia final.

Lazio booked a spot in the semifinal after a narrow 1-0 win to give Maurizio Sarri another bragging right against Jose Mourinho in the Rome derby.

Mourinho and Sarri, two of Serie A’s biggest managerial egos, watched as their teams clashed fiercely on the pitch after tempers flared in their Coppa Italia quarterfinals.

What began as a cagey tactical battle, descended into mayhem towards the end, prompting red cards, and both teams locked in an intense numerical disadvantage duel.

Lazio finished the game with ten men while Roma received two red cards, but it was Mattia Zaccagni’s first half penalty that ultimately proved the decisive difference between the two.
