Former Yanga forward Stephane Aziz Ki is mourning the death of his son which happened while he was doing duty for Burkina Faso at AFCON 2025.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has been overshadowed by tragedy following the death of Burkina Faso midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki's young son.

The player is currently competing with his national team at the tournament in Morocco was forced to leave camp to attend his son’s funeral with details that led to his death still not clear.

Aziz Ki's club, Wydad AC, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an official statement, offering their condolences to the former Yanga forward and his family.

"With deep sorrow and sadness, Wydad AC extends its sincerest condolences to our player Aziz Ki on the passing of his son. We ask God Almighty to have mercy on the deceased, grant him a place in Paradise, and give his family and loved ones patience and solace,” the club said.

Ki Had Provided a Great Assist against Sudan

The 29-year-old midfielder has been a key figure for Burkina Faso at the tournament. He provided a beautiful assist in the team's 2-0 victory over Sudan, a result that secured their qualification for the knockout stages.

Burkina Faso finished second in Group D after a campaign that included a 2-1 win against Equatorial Guinea and a narrow 1-0 loss to group winners Algeria. Their performance earned them a challenging Round of 16 fixture against holders Ivory Coast.

At club level, Aziz Ki plays for Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club, which he joined in 2025 after a successful spell with Tanzanian giants Yanga.
