Facing Manchester United's worst-ever Premier League performance, José Mourinho defended fellow Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim, praising him and predicting better days ahead, while also reflecting on his own time at Old Trafford.

"There's a critical moment at that club, which is... not just Sir Alex's departure... I wasn't the one who came in, it was David Moyes, but when my Netflix documentary comes out, the story will be told [laughs]. I arrived afterward, to a club still living through that period.

"We won several trophies, finished second in the league, and I still don't understand how clubs punished for Financial Fair Play are allowed to just pay a fine.

"I don't get it; if they're punished, it's because they have the money to pay fines," he began in an interview with Canal 11, via Abola, arguing that he should have won the 2017/18 title instead of Guardiola's Manchester City.

"I think they should have had points deducted, and if they had, we would have won the league, legally. But this goes to show that it wasn't enough for me to have stability, continuity.

"Today, I think with the change in ownership, with an owner who doesn't have much experience in football but does in sports, there's more sensitivity," he explained, also praising Ratcliffe for not sacking the former Sporting manager.

"The fact that Ruben, after overseeing Manchester United's worst Premier League season, retains the confidence to continue, to be Ruben Amorim with his ideas, is already a sign that much is changing within the club.

"And with that stability... we all agree he's a coach with great potential, a strong personality. I think he has incredible potential to do great things there," he added.
